The Box SF offers corporate meeting and off-site meeting spaces, classes/workshops, and houses the largest antiquarian paper and advertising store in the United States within our letterpress shop on the ground floor! We have five unique spaces available for rent in this spectacular historic 1926 San Francisco building.

We are located at 1069-1073 Howard Street (Between 6th and 7th) in the South of Market area of San Francisco, just two blocks from Moscone Convention Center and Civic Center BART station. The Box SF is a former 'William Randolph Hearst Printing Plant' and one of San Francisco’s premier event spaces. In 2018 it was expanded, transformed, and restored to accommodate a wealth of printed history and, including: books, packaging, antiques, posters, and a wide variety of original antique printed pieces and products.

For corporate events, meetings, and private gatherings we have three floors and 5 amazing spaces for rent by the hour. We are also available for film and photoshoots daily!

To tour our event spaces, please call to make an appointment. We are open Monday through Friday 10am-5pm and at specific requested times on evenings or weekends.

Third Floor

Our top floor is our main and largest space, featuring our historic Gate Room with a capacity of 50 people. The main feature of this banquet and meeting room is a breathtaking 337-year old conference/dining table made from antique Chinese village gate doors. The table seats 32 guests and the room can seat 50 by adding a second boardroom table. Outside the Gate Room, the top floor has a total capacity of 80 guests. Our main room can be set up a number of ways from theater style to various conference and reception set-ups. All bookings include an on-site Venue Manager. They are here to manage facility use, coordinate technical support, catering load-in, furniture delivery and vendor setup and ensure that your event runs smoothly. The space is available to rent in two eight hour blocks: from 8 am - 4 pm and from 4 pm - 12 am.

Second Floor

We have three meeting suites on our second floor. Our Webster and Willy Suites can welcome anywhere from 2-10 guests and our Buddy Suite can welcome between 2-30 guests. Each suite can be rented by the hour with a four hour minimum. Each of our creative meeting spaces include a pull down projection screen, Wifi, and furniture. We have full bar packages and multiple catering options available, or can charge an outside catering fee if you prefer a caterer not on our approved list. We have no food and beverage minimums.

First Floor

For special occasions we have a historic letterpress printing shop and 1850s mercantile on our ground floor. It can be rented for creative off-sites, small board meetings, classes, workshops, film/video shoots, and
receptions for 10 to 50 people.

The Pressroom and Mercantile at The Box SF is a unique antique printed matter store open to the public. The store has historic printing presses dating as early as 1838, all of which have been restored to working order. The Box SF exhibits, sells, prints, and educates its clients on the remarkable and varied types of printing that were done in the past. Designed to look like a 19th century mercantile, the shop is filled with 15 million pieces of antique and rare ephemera, prints, posters, toys, labels, cards, books, packaging, and graphic objects dating from 1700 to today. Archivists, collectors, leaders of the design and printing industry, and everyday enthusiasts from all over the world shop with us every day.

Stop by, see some beautiful examples of letterpress printing, pick up a one of a kind gift, and enjoy this opportunity to step back in time! Our store is open 6 days a week (Monday - Saturday) from 10am - 5pm.

Hidden Speakeasy

We have a Hidden Speakeasy in the basement called "The Sipping Room" which can seat up to 8-10 people at a time. This space is accessible through two antique fireplaces and is only available as a special add on package for guests booking events on the upper floors.
