Incredible 398 page German Decoration and Design book published in Leipzig, Germany by J.G. Schelter & Giesecke in 1900. The title roughly translates to: "All sorts of decoration to furnish printed matter of any kind." This book also specifies it won a grand prize in Paris in the year 1900. Every page of this fantastic book is filled with elaborate and gorgeous Art Nouveau stock cuts and illustrations. From alphabets, to border designs, animals, religious subjects, crests, portraits and so much more, this book is an indispensable reference to the designer and student of Art Nouveau. The majority of this book is printed in black and white, but there are a few color pages within, especially near the back where an almost exclusively oriental/ Japanese style is adopted. There are also two three panel, fold out pages at the back. One being a confirmation document and the other a receipt template.
The book is in very good condition for its age. The inside pages are clean, clear and legible and the binding is tight and intact. The outer covers have some small dents and a few small stains. The cover has also split lightly at the top and bottom edges of the spine on the front cover. The damage looks to be be purely cosmetic. The page of 197-198 has been torn out, but all the other pages seem to be accounted for. There are also some light pencil scribble marks on page 223. Every page of this fantastic book is a work of art unto itself, and serves to provide endless inspiration to the viewer.
