The Box SF's Hidden Speakeasy: A Unique Event Feature in San Francisco

In a city like San Francisco that’s virtually overflowing with available event spaces and private meeting rooms, why choose one over the other? Considerations like price, size, location, and availability certainly matter — but all other things being equal, what makes a space special?

If you’re planning an event, whether it’s a private celebration or a corporate gathering, you want more than just a place to suit your basic needs. You want a place that will leave an impression.

At The Box SF, the Bay Area’s most unique and unforgettable event space, we offer a range of rooms and areas to suit every need. But there’s one room in particular that our previous clients love most — the Speakeasy

Here’s why our private speakeasy, also known as The Sipping Room, is an in-demand unique event feature in San Francisco.

Discovering the Most Unique Private Space for Rent in SF

The speakeasy is only available as an add-on to guests who have booked events with bars on the upper floors of The Box SF. This secretive and exclusive private meeting room is only accessible through two antique moving fireplaces, and inside you’ll find an unforgettable space unlike any other private event rental.

2000 wine and liquor bottles adorn every wall, and the entire space is imbued with Prohibition-era charm that lends a sense of history and excitement. It all adds up to make you and your guests feel as though you’ve been transported to another time and place, even though The Box SF is conveniently located just two blocks from the Moscone Convention Center and is easily accessible from the interstate.

An Atmosphere Like No Other

The Sipping Room is a callback to the rich history of our building, first constructed in 1926 in the midst of Prohibition. Stepping into the speakeasy is like entering another time and place, with soft lighting, genuine vintage decor, and a sophisticated atmosphere. The rich, antique furnishings and secretive environment make the speakeasy a perfect add-on experience  for everything from dinners upstairs at our 338 year old gate table to weddings and  unique corporate gatherings.

Creative environments like the Sipping Room encourage individuals to make new connections, conversations to flow freely, and escaping routine to come naturally. Where past meets present, you and your guests can indulge in a truly special atmosphere.

Crafting Memorable Experiences

Whether it’s a corporate event or a private function, moments and memories tend to fade with time. Even a successful event may be forgotten just days later, with the connections and inspiration being forgotten along with it.

But at The Box SF, unforgettable environments like the Sipping Room, in tandem with our 1850’s museum-like Mercantile on our ground floor ensure that every memory is unforgettable. When you’re enjoying great company surrounded by a private collection of over 2,000 bottles of curated wine, you’re guaranteed to remember everything about the event. And because we offer bar package options, you can cater your selections for various tasting options.

Because the Sipping Room is an add-on feature coupled with our larger spaces, it gives you the flexibility to combine large audiences with smaller breakout groups. That might mean it’s perfect for large reunions in which you want the chance to step into a more intimate space with close personal friends. Or maybe it means a conference-style event in which smaller group connections can be made outside the hustle and bustle of the main program. The Box SF Team often takes people down in small groups of 6-8 at a time for a drink and the experience and then back up our historic freight elevator to retrieve the next group until all our guests have had this one of a kind experience.

Whatever your event needs, the speakeasy’s versatile and private setting is ideal for adding an exclusive space that’s rich with a feeling of luxury.

And whatever your unique needs, our team will work closely with you to customize every detail and ensure that we cater to your needs. We understand that an event space like ours is about more than just the setting — it’s about the staff that make every event unforgettable.

A Historic Venue with Modern Sensibilities

At The Box SF, our historic century-old history doesn’t mean we’re stuck in the past. Our clients love the fact that we combine vintage historical settings with modern capabilities — everything from presentation and video technology, uplighting, live stream, and video recording onsite, to staff who know how to meet a broad range of needs. This includes some of the Bay Area’s best Catering Companies, Florists, Furniture Companies and more approved to work in the venue.

And because we’re so centrally located in San Francisco without being jammed directly in the central tourist hubs, you get all the convenience for your guests without the frustrations of traffic and crowds.

Oh, and did we mention that our ground floor houses a record-breaking antique letterpress shop? This unique space features 13 historic antique Letterpresses that date back to 1837. The shop houses 160 rare cabinets and store fixtures and an extensive collection of over 15 million pieces of historic graphic design and rare printed items spanning from the 1700s to the present day.

It’s just another way The Box SF offers an atmosphere unlike any other.

Creating Lasting Memories

Great events don’t just create connections or share content. They make memories that last a lifetime. At The Box SF, unforgettable events are our specialty. For a unique and inspired setting for events in the Bay Area, guaranteed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and fun, there’s nowhere better.

Let us help you create an event that your guests will remember for a lifetime.
