An absolutely gorgeous book of children's stories and illustrations by John Martin. Known at the time as the children's friend, Martin was an early proponent of "edu-tainment," that is, educating children in an entertaining way. At the beginning of the book, Martin adds a newspaper column written by Elinor Roosevelt entitled "Mrs. Roosevelt Urges Greater Aid to Children" in which she introduces John Martin personally.
The book is in beautiful vintage condition with only minor damage due to age. It is missing its original dust jacket; however, the front is lovely by itself. The best thing about this piece is the amazingly graphic illustrations featured on nearly every page! Amazing!
