Gorgeous double-sided gentleman's linen handkerchief package from the late 1860's. This box is empty and clear of all original contents. This piece opens like a book, revealing two compartments which also open up. This is where the handkerchiefs would have originally been housed. The lids of these compartments have beautiful embossed and colored lithos with images of fashionable Victorian ladies.
This piece is in fair condition because of the obvious damage to the outer packaging. There are holes, as well as a notable amount of deterioration to the cover image. The embossed elements and central image remain legible, but are partially obscured by damage. The rest of the outer box is similar, and there is a small bit of cursive--written in ink--across the bottom edge. Inside, the piece is substantially cleaner, but has suffered some weathering. There is also a long scratch across the face of the women on the left. The inner lids are in fragile condition and have begun to separate at the spine. The inside is clear.
