Wonderful 1928 copy of "The Charms of New Orleans: The Vieux Carre, The Mardi Gras, The Color and Romance of the French and Spanish Days," by W.G. MacFarlane. This wonderful Louisiana tourism book is a total of eighty pages long and features eight full page autochrome photos in addition to many pages in sepia. The travel book offers a general history of the city and many of its iconic landmarks/ businesses. It is notable that this piece was produced by the American Autochrome Company which was responsible for some of the earliest commercial color photography in the West.
The book itself is in fair to good condition for its age. There is some obvious sun damage to the outer spine and back cover, as well as some general deterioration to the edges. There is also a subtle crease line running down the front cover. Inside, the piece is clean, clear and intact. There is some foxing within, but nothing notable enough to be distracting. The spine of this piece is intact and solid. Overall, this is a wonderful piece for the traveller, New Orleans or history enthusiast in your life.
