Amazing antique copy of the "Biennial Report of the Commissioners of Lunacy 1897-1898 for the State of New Hampshire, Part II." This is the second volume of a two part set outlining patient commitments, discharges and deaths for the year. Each section has a detailed chart of the names of the "insane." Also listed is age, sex, condition, color, marital status, nationality and all relevant dates for each patient. The discharged section also lists whether the patient was better, worse or the same when discharged. The deaths section lists the cause of death. There is also a letter tucked within addressed to the Town Clerk from the State Board of Health.
This book is fascinating and provides a glimpse into the notorious mental asylums of the 19th Century. Condition-wise, the piece is in good shape for its age. Both outer and inner portions are clean, clear and legible. There is some foxing to the front page and the binding has begun to come loose, but it is otherwise, undamaged. This is a wonderful reference book for anyone into psychology, public health and institutional history.
